Day 1
Moshi (950m/3,117ft) to Londorosi gate to Shira 1 Camp (3,610m/11,844ft)
On Day 1, you will depart from Moshi (950m/3,117ft) and drive to Londorosi Gate (2,250m/7,382ft) for registration before continuing to the trailhead. The hike begins through the forest to reach Shira 1 Camp (3,610m/11,844ft), where you'll spend your first night on the mountain.
Day 2
Shira 1 Camp (3,610m/11,844ft) to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m/12,631ft)
Day 2 involves trekking across the Shira Plateau, a scenic route with expansive views of the surrounding landscape. You'll arrive at Shira 2 Camp (3,850m/12,631ft) by the afternoon, with time to acclimatize and explore the area.
Day 3
Shira 2 Camp (3,850m/12,631ft) to Barranco Camp (3,900m/12,795ft) via Lava Tower (4,600m/15,092ft)
On Day 3, you'll leave Shira 2 Camp (3,850m/12,631ft) and ascend towards the Lava Tower (4,600m/15,092ft), where you will stop for lunch. Afterward, you will descend to Barranco Camp (3,900m/12,795ft), where the steep Barranco Wall looms ahead.
Day 4
Barranco Camp (3,900m/12,795ft) to Karanga Camp (3,995m/13,107ft)
Day 4 starts with an exhilarating climb up the Barranco Wall, offering stunning views of Kibo Peak. After crossing ridges and valleys, you'll reach Karanga Camp (3,995m/13,107ft), where you will rest before your final ascent.
Day 5
Karanga Camp (3,995m/13,107ft) to Barafu Camp (4,673m/15,331ft)
On Day 5, you will make your way from Karanga Camp (3,995m/13,107ft) to Barafu Camp (4,673m/15,331ft). This shorter trek is designed to conserve energy for the challenging summit push that awaits.
Day 6
Barafu Camp (4,673m/15,331ft) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,340ft) via Stella Point (5,756m/18,885ft) and descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m/10,171ft)
Day 6 is the summit day, beginning with a midnight start from Barafu Camp (4,673m/15,331ft). You'll trek through the dark, aiming to reach the summit by sunrise. After celebrating at Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,340ft), you'll descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m/10,171ft) for a well-deserved rest.
Day 7
Mweka Camp (3,100m/10,171ft) to Mweka Gate (1,640m/5,381ft) and transfer to hotel
On Day 7, you will descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m/5,381ft), where you will be picked up and driven back to Moshi (950m/3,117ft), marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
Day 8
Arusha / Moshi
After breakfast transfer to the central bus station, to the airline office in the city for your shuttle bus to the airport or extension e.g. Northern Circuit Safari or onward flight to Zanzibar.
